Community Working Group
The Trust Community Working Group is responsible for developing the community aspirations of both the Trust and the Football Club. We seek to bring to life the oft quoted sayings “We are more than just a football club” and “We are no ordinary football club”.
The Working Group has a wide range of representation from the Trust itself, the Club, and Football in the Community and supporter volunteers.
We work across a number of key areas. Here are some examples:
* Promoting the Trust and Club as co-operative social enterprises
We oversee our membership of Essence, an active Exeter based network for social enterprises and co-operatives, social businesses and those that support them. This also provides us with membership of the Exeter Chamber of Commerce. These links provide excellent networking opportunities to promote our work among local businesses.
* Promoting the Trust and Club at the heart of the community
We oversee our membership of the Exeter Cultural Partnership, the City’s body promoting sports and the arts. Key members of the City Council and other local organisations sit on this Partnership.
We are a member of a number of other exterior organisations.
We work closely with our award winning Football in the Community team who are widely recognised for their community programmes.
We work with Exeter University on a number of projects.
* Promoting good communication between supporter groups
We established and now oversee the Grecian Groups Forum which meets regularly to ensure good communications between the Club, Trust and all Exeter City supporter groups
* Promoting good links with key national football organisations
We help promote links with key national organisations, particularly Supporters Direct, the national body supporting Supporters Trusts. We make use of Supporter Direct expertise, for example in exploring the potential for Community Share Schemes.
* Promoting the Heritage of Exeter City FC
We have organised a number of heritage projects and more are planned. We are particularly proud of our work to commemorate the 1914 tour to Argentina and Brazil.
We helped deliver an exhibition, a book, a website and a community play. We have also overseen the erection of a memorial to our players killed in World War 1. For more on our heritage work – check out our history website at:
* Promoting Equality and Diversity
Through our One Game One Community Group we promote all aspects of equality and diversity at the club. We hold regular designated games on themes including racism, disability, women in football and homophobia. We organise a summer tournament for local black and minority ethnic players. We support the Exeter City Ladies and Ability Counts teams. We have helped the setting up of a Senior Reds supporter group and also support the Exeter City Disabled Supporters Association.
