The Exeter City Exiles are once again preparing for their much-loved annual trip to the Greek island of Andros — with plans now in place for both 2026 and a landmark 20-year anniversary celebration in 2027.
The tradition began in 2007 when the Exiles were invited to send a football team to the island of Andros, part of the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea near Athens. The invitation came through an Exeter connection at Villa Rena in the village of Batsi, established by Spike Sussex and Tina Davis following their own visit the previous year.
From the outset, there was no shortage of volunteers. Players eagerly signed up, supporters followed, and what began as a one-off adventure quickly became something much more special.
The welcome from the locals was warm and genuine — especially as the visit takes place outside the main tourist season. The Exiles proved hugely popular on the island, forging friendships that have endured ever since.

An Annual Highlight
Such was the success of that first trip that it became an annual event. Over the years:
Some Exiles return every single year
Others dip in and out depending on availability
A few come once — but always with the intention of returning
The allure of Andros, the camaraderie, and the relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere have ensured that no one leaves without wanting to come back.
The group stays primarily in Batsi, a picturesque harbour village with traditional whitewashed buildings and sweeping sea views. Most Exiles base themselves at Villa Rena, perched on the hillside above the harbour. A gentle stepped path leads down into the heart of the village — a route that transforms into a winter watercourse during heavy rain.
Others choose to stay at Chryssi Akti Hotel, the village’s only large beachfront hotel, offering immediate access to the sand and sea.
The 2026 trip is already taking shape
Exeter City Supporters' Trust Trustee Neil Le Milliere and fellow Exiles plan to travel out around 11 June 2026, returning approximately 26 June 2026. However, the beauty of the Exiles' Andros tradition is its flexibility — supporters travel at various times across the month, ensuring that no matter when you go, you’re likely to find fellow Grecians to socialise with.
Neil has offered to assist anyone interested with:
Choosing the best travel dates
Finding suitable flights
Securing accommodation
Booking arrangements where helpful
The group is currently awaiting competitive fares, particularly through seasonal sales from Aegean Airlines.

2027: The 20-Year Anniversary Celebration
Looking further ahead, 2027 will mark twenty years since that very first Andros adventure.
Plans are already forming for a celebratory trip around the same June period. The anniversary visit may include:
One or two football matches
Additional social events
Special gatherings to mark the milestone
Interest is already high, with many long-standing participants planning to return for what promises to be a memorable occasion. Planning for the anniversary trip will begin in earnest once the 2026 visit concludes.
