London Exiles sponsor Maidenhead Women fixture.

Our supporters group from the capital reflect on their hospitality adventure at York Road.

On Sunday March 13, our Supporters' Group the London Exiles attended and sponsored the City Women's FAWNL fixture against Maidenhead United.

City ran out 3-0 winners through goals from Anthea Kaptein, Connie Pengelly and Sarah Stacey and Neil Le Milliere has reported on the group's day.

Maidenhead United's York Road ground is one Grecian families’ local non-league team. When they are not following City they can usually be found at Maidenhead’s matches.

Jim Tucker contacted me some time ago and said he’d always had a dream of seeing his Exeter heroes play local to himself and when he saw the Women’s team were playing Maidenhead the dream had come true, or at least close enough!

The Exiles committee then had a chat and thought this would be an ideal day to show our support for the Exeter Women’s team by getting a few of us along and sponsoring the game.

On contacting Maidenhead’s Secretary, the Magpies were more than happy to put a package together for us and we agreed a price of £20 a head with a minimum of £250. For that we had free entry and programme, a food and drink voucher for their kiosk, use of their Alan Devonshire hospitality box with a cash bar (not normally open for Women’s matches); player of the match award, and group photo.

Jim came along, as did his son Will with his two sons in their Exeter kits to be mascots for the day as well. The Soper family from Luton also joined the eight London area based Exiles.

What a great day it turned out to be, great value and great hospitality, they really couldn’t do enough for us and on top of that we won 3-0, perfect!

We awarded the player of the match to midfielder Phoebe Baker who hardly put a foot wrong all game.
