Barry Sansom – RIP

Exeter City Supporters' Trust is saddened to learn of the death of Barry Sansom, a passionate supporter whose work was crucial to the Club’s survival in 2003.

Barry played a central, hands-on role in the volunteer work parties that brought St James Park up to Football Conference standards during a critical three-month period. Giving up his job at the time, he led, organised and worked tirelessly to ensure the ground was ready for the new season.

His efforts were instrumental in securing the Club’s continued use of St James Park and were a vital part of the early success of Trust ownership.

Barry will be fondly remembered by all who worked alongside him and by those who value the Club’s history.

Funeral details will be shared if and when they become available.

Chris Wickens – RIP

Exeter City Supporters' Trust is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Chris Wickens, a highly valued contributor to the Trust-led recovery of the Club in 2003.

Chris was a driving force behind The Far Post on Bedford Street, an innovative Trust outlet that raised funds, sold merchandise, hosted discussion and helped promote the Trust at a time when the Club faced immense uncertainty. Despite living in Cheltenham, he remained a constant and committed supporter of both Exeter City and the Trust.

Chris’s funeral details are as follows:

  • Date: Monday 19th January

  • Time: 12:00

  • Place: Cheltenham Crematorium

  • Dress: Informal, no black ties. Red and white are encouraged, but please no football shirts.

To assist with planning, anyone intending to attend is asked to email: geoffstyles2012@gmail.com

Exeter City Supporters' Trust and the wider City family extend their sincere condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of Barry Sansom and Chris Wickens at this sad time. Both men gave so much to the Club during one of its most challenging periods, and their commitment, kindness and belief will be remembered with gratitude.
