It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Adrian Hitchcox – known affectionately by many as "Right Wing" – a much-loved and respected member of the Exeter City family, both locally and across the wider Grecian community.
Adrian passed away on last Monday (25th August, 2025) at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth following a long and courageous battle with illness. He had been seriously unwell for over a year, yet throughout this time he showed remarkable strength and resilience – traits that will come as no surprise to those who knew him.
A lifelong Grecian through and through, Adrian’s dedication to Exeter City was unwavering. His passion for the club was evident in everything he did, and he gave so much of his time and energy to support the cause, both on and off the pitch.
In his younger days, Adrian was a talented footballer who had the honour of pulling on the red and white shirt. Although he never made it into the first team, largely due to the formidable presence of City legend Graham Rees occupying his favoured position, his pride in having been part of the club as a player never wavered.
Adrian also served as a Trustee of the Exeter City Supporters’ Trust. During his tenure, he was a committed and active contributor to the Trust Board, regularly making the journey from his home in Westward Ho to Exeter regardless of weather or road conditions to attend meetings and help steer the Trust forward. His dedication and enthusiasm made a lasting impact, and his contributions will not be forgotten.
Adrian will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all those in the Grecian family who are feeling his loss.
Rest in peace, Adrian.
